“We mark this year’s International Day of Persons with Disabilities in the wake of the adoption of the ambitious 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.  This global blueprint for action summons us to leave no one behind.”

BE_7Disabilities according to National Policy for Persons with Disabilities, it refers to a person with restrictions or lack of abilities to perform an activity in the manner or within the range considered normal for a human being. The societal icon of persons with disabilities is impacted by mind-set based on stigma and bias, as well as outdated ideas that are often the utmost barrier to execute equal participation towards the development in society on an equal basis with others.

It is vital to note that disability is part of the human condition, that all of us either are or will become disabled at one point or another during the course of our lives. In fact, people with disabilities ought to be able to perform their role in society and partake on the same basis with others. Thus, it is imperative to focus on the aptitude and not on the disability of an individual.

Celebrated on the 3rd of December annually, the International Day of Persons with Disabilities aspires to uphold a perceptive of disability issues and organize support for the dignity, rights and well-being of people with disabilities.
